Solar Thermal Hot Water is generated via solar panels which collect heat directly from the sun. This is then used to heat water that is stored within a hot water cylinder within the property.
Solar panels are generally mounted on a roof facing due south (the most effective position for solar panels). When not mounted on a roof they can also be mounted at ground level.
It is recommended that between 1 and two meters square of solar panels are in situ per person that resides within the house, to generate sufficient energy on an average per person basis.
Whilst solar panels are perfect for use with most existing hot water systems – ideally the cylinder in use would be big enough to store two days’ worth of water and must have two coils. It is highly recommended that you check with the manufacturer of your boiler if this is a combination boiler, as not all combination boilers accept pre-heated water.

"After discovering the bottom part of some of my radiators were never getting warm, I rang Viva Gas for some advice. They were very helpful and sent out an engineer straight away who power flushed my central heating system. It’s now working like it is brand new." - Mrs Swallow
