Home Heating Systems & Boiler Guide

There are currently three types of hot water systems that are mainly used within the UK: instantaneous, open vented hot water systems and unvented hot water systems. Below is a bit more information on each as a home heating guide.

  1. Instantaneous: This is normally provided directly from the combination boiler, which also provides heating for the property. Water is not held in storage.
  2. Open Vented Hot Water Systems: A heat only boiler is usually in situ and an open vented cylinder is used to heat the hot water. The water is stored in a separate tank.
  3. Unvented Hot Water Systems: A system boiler is usually in situ and an unvented cylinder is used to heat the hot water. The water is also stored in a separate tank.

"After discovering the bottom part of some of my radiators were never getting warm, I rang Viva Gas for some advice. They were very helpful and sent out an engineer straight away who power flushed my central heating system. It’s now working like it is brand new." - Mrs Swallow
